I’ve had this sentence hurled at me a time or two, “ Go back where you came from!” They were implying Africa, but I’m from Texas. Guess what, I’m American and I’m not going anywhere.

African Americans have contributed a great deal to this country, but never get the acknowledgement.
I’ll give you one example. The Harlem Hellfighters - 369th Infantry Regiment, the first (Colored) National Guard unit out of New York in WWI. I’m sure most of us never learned about them in school. The entire unit was awarded the Croix de Guerre, France’s highest award for bravery.
Although they were prevented from serving with their White American counterparts, they were assigned to French forces and never lost a trench or gave up any ground to the enemy.
Can you imagine being willing to give you life for a country that hates you so much that it refuses to allow you to fight alongside your White counterparts simply because of the color of your skin?
